Alan Jackson has always been open about his religious beliefs, and he doesn’t hold back from singing about them. So, the country music icon decided to bring together his passion for music and his love for his faith into one by releasing his first gospel album in 2006, called Precious Memories.
This comprises fifteen tracks, including some of the dearly beloved gospels like “How Great Thou Art,” “In The Garden,” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” But it’s actually the album’s last track that truly took our breath away – it’s none other than “I Want To Stroll Over Heaven With You.”
Alan Jackson Delivered A Heartfelt Yet Powerful Performance
Alan Jackson kept things simple for his heartfelt rendition of the song – softly singing the poignant lyrics while a few instruments gently played in the background. The result would absolutely leave you in great astonishment.
After listening to Alan Jackson’s “I Want to Stroll Over Heaven with You,” it’s easy to see how Precious Memories earned Platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), even if no singles were released from it.
Following Precious Memories’ massive success, Jackson went back to the studio to record more hymns for his second gospel album called Precious Memories Volume II. The follow-up album, which contains eleven traditional hymns, was released in 2013. It went on to win the Top Christian Album at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards.
Still, it’s “I Want To Stroll Over Heaven With You” that we love most among Alan Jackson songs. Carl Trivette – a singer and songwriter of bluegrass, country, and gospel music – wrote this stunning ballad for his wife, Marilee Rasnake, when she was still alive.
