Donald Lawrence and The Tri-City Singers win in Traditional Song and Album at the 2019 GMA Dove Awards
Donald Lawrence and the Tri-City Singers win big as they bagged the honor of having the Best Traditional Gospel Album of the Year with Goshen, a reunion album with the Tri-City Singers that was released in 2018; and with “Deliver Me.”
Lawrence is a prominent gospel singer, songwriter, record producer, and artist. This multiple Grammy and Stellar Award winner has collaborated with a diverse roster, as vocal coach to the R&B group En Vogue, musical director for Stephanie Mills, songwriter for The Clark Sisters, and collaborator with a host of artists including Peabo Bryson, Kirk Franklin, Karen Clark Sheard, Donnie McClurkin, and Mary J. Blige.
Lawrence took on The Tri-City Singers after a friend vacated his position as musical director. Debuting in 1993, they released “A Songwriter’s Point Of View,” which landed #2 on the Billboard Top Gospel Charts.
Although the Tri-City singers retired in 2006, they made a reunion album with Lawrence, Goshen, which is brilliant in its own accord. Having to win this prestigious award just solidifies the fact that it is a place of comfort and plenty.
With his award-winning single “Deliver Me,” he is joined by prestigious singer Le’Andria Johnson and went on to perform one of the most powerful and spiritual songs in his roster.
