For the very first time, the Academy of Country Music Awards will be broadcasted from different iconic landmarks in the music city. This year, the 2020 ACM awards could not be more than exciting with some surprising awards finalists. Here is the updated list of award winners, finalists, and performers for the upcoming 2020 ACM Awards.
2020 ACM host Keith Urban announced in mid-August who won the New Male and Female artists of the Year. Among 10 new upcoming artists, Tenille Townes and Riley Green won the Female and Male Artists of the Year. It was also announced that both Townes and Greens will have the honor to perform live during the awards night.
Last Monday, three more winners were announced. These included Thomas Rhett’s “Remember You Young” for Video of the Year and Hillary Lindsey who won her first Songwriter of the Year award. Miranda Lambert won the Music Event of the Year for her one-off cover of Elvin Bishop’s “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” featuring tourmates Maren Morris, Ashley McBryde, Caylee Hammack, Tenille Townes, and Elle King.
Video of the Year: “Remember You Young”
Thomas Rhett was one of the early winners prior to the 2020 ACM awards. Rhett competed in the same category as Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber (“10,000 Hours”), Blake Shelton (“God’s Country”), Old Dominion (“One Man Band”), and Little Big Town (“Sugar Coat”). This marked his sixth ACM Awards win in his career.
Songwriter of the Year: Hillary Lindsey
After 2 songwriters of the year nominations, Hillary Lindsey has finally bagged the award. After her consecutive nominations in 2017 and 2018, Hillary Lindsey becomes the second woman in ACM to win in this category. She now joins fellow ‘Love Junkies’ member Lori McKennie who also won the said award. With her recent number one hits like Luke Bryan’s “Knockin’ Boots and “What She Wants Tonight,” Lindsey has earned her spot amongst the best country songwriters today.
Music Event of the Year: “Fooled Around and Fell in Love”
The song that featured Caylee Hammack, Elle King, Ashley McBryde, Maren Morris, and Tenille Townes this revived rendition of Elvin Bishop’s 1976 hit proved to be still a winner. Lambert released her track in 2019 prior to the “Roadside Bars & Pink Guitars” tour which was produced by Jay Joyce.
