Alan Jackson has always been a dedicated Christian. He’s always proud of it and never hesitates from singing about his faith. So, in 2006, the country icon finally decided to combine his Christian devotion with his love of music to make his first gospel album, called Precious Memories.
It was such a success – the album was actually certified Platinum by the RIAA – that seven years later, Alan Jackson recorded another gospel album, called Precious Memories Volume II. One of the classic gospel favorites that Jackson recorded for the album was none other than “Amazing Grace.” And it’s a version like you’ve never heard before.

Story Behind The Immensely Popular Hymn
Did you know that “Amazing Grace” has approximately been performed ten million times annually? It’s no surprise it’s one of the most recognizable hymns.
The beloved hymn was written two and a half centuries ago in 1772 by John Newton, who actually penned the lyrics as a poem.
Newton’s life as a rather unfortunate and troubled childhood turned into a slave trader took many twists and turns. Eventually, he entirely abandoned his life at sea, wholeheartedly dedicating his life to God’s service. In 1764, Newton was ordained into the Anglican ministry and came to be exceptionally famous as a preacher and hymn writer. He wrote about 280 hymns, this includes the beloved “Amazing Grace.”
Through the years, a number of noteworthy performers recorded “Amazing Grace.” Just a few of those artists include Elvis Presley, Ray Charles, and Brad Paisley.
