A Group of Marines Expressed Their Faith With “Lord, I Lift Your Name on High”

In one touching video, a group of U.S. Marines took a break from their intense training and structured regimens to come together and sing, “Lord, I Lift Your Name on High.” Accompanied by an acoustic guitar, the Marines did not hold back. Instead, they harmoniously sign and gesture that you can feel a sincere sense of camaraderie and faith.

Marines are some of the fiercest and most dedicated in the U.S. Military, yet they occasionally reveal their softer side, sense of humor, and dance moves. At the end of “Lord, I Lift Your Name on High,” the Marines show their appreciation by yelling out their signature’ hoo-rah!’, reminding us that these guys mean business and take their duty, singing, and faith seriously!

A Simple Song, ‘The Lord Dropped Into My Heart’

Written by Rick Founds in 1989, “Lord, I Lift Your Name on High” is a cycle of redemption compared with the water cycle.

“You came from heaven to earth to show the way. From the earth to the cross, my debt to pay. From the cross to the grave. From the grave to the sky. Lord, I lift Your name on high,” the song goes.

Founds, born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, became fascinated with music and started writing songs for his Sunday school class at the age of ten. He wrote the now-famous song, “Lord, I Lift Your Name On High,” while ministering at the Minister of Music at a church in California where he served for fourteen years.

“The song was born out of a typical Bible study or devotional time that I have, usually in the mornings. At that time, I was the music director of a large church. I had an office in the back of the building, as far away from everyone as I could be because I, quite often, could make a lot of noise with my music. I often would sit in my office and play my guitar while studying,” Founds said.

“I had a small Macintosh computer and a Bible on a disc. I would bring up the Bible on my monitor. I usually would read a portion of the New Testament, followed by a portion of the Old Testament.

Founds added, “It is just a simple song, but it is what the Lord dropped into my heart.” He performed the song as a worship leader in his church and was picked up by Maranatha! Music. The first recorded version was by Maranatha! Singers, and it was done in classic style.

Since then, “Lord, I Lift Your Name on High” has been one of the most popular Christian songs. It has orbited the earth in some fifteen languages and dialects. There have been several interpretations of the song by many artists in all styles: gospel, R&B, soul, dance, rock, reggae, hip hop, rap, acapella, amongst others.

In the video below, you can watch this group of Marines singing an amazing version of “Lord, I Lift Your Name on High.”
