In 2017, award-winning country musician Garth Brooks hit the No. 1 spot again after ten years with his song “Ask Me How I Know.”

As part of the album “Gunslinger,” the song landed 4 charts, peaking at no. 1 on the US Country Airplay (Billboard), no. 13 on the US Hot Country Songs (Billboard), no. 30 on Canada Country (Billboard), and no. 71 on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts, making it one of Garth Brooks’s greatest hits.

Brooks being picked to record the song was rather an unexpected decision, considering Mitch Rossell, the writer of the song, initially meant to record it himself. Luckily for Brooks, he did get the chance to record it and release it as part of his 2017 album.

Although Brooks is known as one of the best country musicians who has won multiple musical accolades, the superstar spent a decade without a no. 1 hit until 2017 when he released “Ask Me How I Know.”

There is no denying that everything Brook releases is a success, but what made “Ask Me How I Know” one of the best country songs to ever be released is the meaning behind its lyrics.

So, to know more about it, let’s dive into the soulful meaning behind Garth Brooks’s hit song “Ask Me How I Know.”

Meaning Behind the Song

Written by Mitch Rossell, this heartfelt song is simply a reminder that if we love something, we should take care of it before it’s too late.

In an interview with Taste of Country, Rossell stated that the song was inspired by his personal experiences. According to him, he has always been that guy in relationships who had to have control and power over everything, not allowing his partner to share her opinions in making decisions for the relationship.

Because of that, he ended up pushing a couple of good girls away, which he has regretted ever since. That is why he wanted to remind everyone to take care of things dear to them before the world takes them away unexpectedly.

No wonder “Ask Me How I Know” became one of Garth Brooks‘ best hits. Watch the video below.
