Country music has long been dominated by duets that have since been the most successful songs to ever hit the radio. For some reason, country fans quickly fall in love listening to talented artists exchanging their beautiful vocals with one another on fun, dreamy, or even heartbreaking country tunes.

The popularity of certain duets led some country singers to collaborate with each other. This includes Dwight Yoakam, who teamed up with fellow Pikeville, Kentucky native Patty Loveless for the poignant ballad “Send a Message to My Heart.”

The Magical Duet Between Patty Loveless and Dwight Yoakam

Written by Kostas and Kathy Louvin, “Send a Message to My Heart” tells the story of a couple who had to go their separate ways yet still hold each other’s memory and long to hear one say that love is still there.

It finds Yoakam asking Loveless if he ever crosses her mind and dreams, if his name still hangs onto her lips. “In the still of the night, do you wish that I was with you when you turn out the lights?” Loveless sings in response.

While the single failed to climb the top of the country chart – only ranking No. 47 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart – the duet was magical enough. You will absolutely feel Yoakam and Loveless’ deep and powerful longing for one another.

“Send a Message to My Heart” appeared on Dwight Yoakam‘s fourth album, If There Was a Way. It was the only single that was recorded as a duet. Other Dwight Yoakam songs included in the album are “It Only Hurts When I Cry,” “Nothing’s Changed Here,” and “You’re the One” – which reached No. 5 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.
