A country gospel written by Paul Overstreet and Don Schlitz, “Forever and Ever, Amen” was recorded and popularized by Randy Travis in 1987. It was the first single from his second studio album, Always & Forever.
Immediately after its release, the song entered the Billboard Hot Country Singles charts. Soon, it sat on the top spot, giving Travis another no. 1 hit. Not only did it dominate the country charts in the U.S., it also clinched the no. 1 spot on the Canadian RPM Country Tracks. Meanwhile, it charted at no. 55 on the Singles Chart in the U.K.
Furthermore, in the 1987 Grammy Awards, “Forever and Ever, Amen” earned Travis a Grammy for Best Country & Western Song.” In addition, he also won Song of the Year from the Academy of Country Music in the same year.
On April 29, 2014, the song was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). “Forever and Ever, Amen” became Travis’ first solo single to earn an RIAA certification.
