Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline have both established their reputation as country music artists. While Cline’s career was short-lived, her music and other legacies continue to thrive even up to this day. On the other hand, Lynn’s life and career are likewise enduring. Apart from country music, another thing that Cline and Lynn shared is a great friendship. And, this will be the theme of a biopic that is about to drop toward the end of the year.
How does that sound, folks? Exciting, isn’t it? Their fans can now have a chance to look back at the impressive careers and sterling friendship of their idols through this much-awaited film.
Patsy and Loretta
The upcoming biopic is entitled Patsy & Loretta and will start shooting this month. Its focus will mainly be on the entanglement of the two great country singers’ lives in the ‘60s. At that time, Cline was already a well-known country star. In contrast, Lynn’s career was just taking off. When she moved to Nashville, she only has her dreams and her $17 guitar. When the two met, the “I Fall to Pieces” singer never considered Lynn as a competitor or someone who’ll take her place one day. Instead, she made friends with her and soon they became touring partners. They’d worked together closely and was each other’s confidant.
The extraordinary friendship and work-relationship that they’ve just established were only cut short by Cline’s untimely demise in 1963. She was only 30 at that time and at the peak of her career. While Lynn may be devastated with her friend’s sudden death, life went on for her. And even though she was left to continue with her life and career alone, she’s proven to the whole world that she can make it on her own.
Today, at the age of 86, the “Coal Miner’s Daughter” still records and releases music. The multi-awarded singer released her latest album Wouldn’t It Be Great last September. Next month, she’ll be celebrating her 87th birthday. Earlier this year, some of her co-artists in country music have already paid tribute to her.
The People Behind the Upcoming Biopic
The Patsy & Loretta project will have a couple of great names working behind it. The seasoned director Callie Khouri will be directing the film. Meanwhile, Cline’s daughter will be co-producing the project with Lynn’s daughter Patsy Lynn Russell. Angelina Burnett wrote the script while Neil Meron and Mark Nicolson will executive produce it. Cline’s character will be played by Megan Hilty who previously appeared on the musical drama series Smash as well as in theater adaptation of 9 to 5. On the other hand, the 2014 Tony Award winner Jessie Mueller will play as Lynn.
Watch out for this anticipated big screen project of the year!
