Fans all over the world of the legendary country singer Linda Ronstadt may have missed her voice since she retired from performing due to Parkinson’s Disease in 2011.
But, the almost eight years of her absence from the spotlight will be rounded out by a special project featuring the iconic star. An upcoming documentary biopic entitled The Sound of My Voice is underway. It was intended to give Ronstadt’s fans another chance to hear the voice of their beloved singer once more.
The Biopic Film: The Sound of My Voice
The biopic film features the life and music of the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer beginning from her childhood until her retirement. Linda Ronstadt helps in narrating the movie which includes rare photos of her childhood in Tucson, Arizona. Of course, archived footage of her iconic performances will also be the highlights of the 95-minute film.
The project’s title was derived from the song “Still Within the Sound of My Voice” that Jimmy Webb penned. It was first popularized by Glen Campbell in 1987 before Ronstadt covered it two years later.
The Big Stars Behind the Biopic
Some of country music’s most notable artists were cast in the movie including Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Aaron Neville, and Don Henley. Moreover, two award-winning filmmakers from Telling Pictures namely Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman directed the film. Epstein was a recipient of two Academy Awards for his previous documentary works Common Threads: Stories from the Quilt and The Times of Harvey Milk. On the other hand, Friedman’s short documentary for Netflix entitled End Game earned him an Academy Award nomination. Both directors, along with James Keach and Michele Farinola, co-produced Linda Ronstadt’s documentary.
CNN films will be the primary distributor of the film and shall be airing it on cable news network in the future. The documentary will premiere worldwide at the Tribeca Film Festival on Friday, April 26. Sheryl Show is set to perform in honor of Ronstadt after the screening.
