Dan and Shay, Most Nominated Country Artist in BBMA
2019 is a wonderful year for the duo Dan and Shay. They are the only country artist who has the most nominations in the coming Billboard Music Award show. The duo’s nominated in seven categories, these include the following:
- Top Duo/Group
- Chart Achievement Award
- Top Country Album
- Top Country Song (2)
- Country Duo/Group Artist
- Top Country Artist
Two of their songs were nominated in a single category, “Tequila” and “Speechless.” Let’s take a look at these two songs that might win this coming May 1.
“Tequila”
Dan and Shay scored number ones on the Country Airplay chart before “Tequila.” However, their biggest break came when this song was released. It hit the top of both the Billboard Country and Country Airplay chart. They have achieved a mainstream success with their single which was written by Dan Symers, Nicolle Galyon, Jordan Reynolds. “Tequila” won this year’s ACM Single and Song of the Year. The duo was also able to bring home the Grammy Award for Best Country Duo/ Group Performance too. Maybe this year, “Tequila” will be named the Top Country Song during the Billboard Music Award.
“Speechless”
Another song that was nominated for this year’s Billboard Music Award Top Country Song is Dan and Shay’s “Speechless.” Since they have two songs nominated for this category, they have a bigger chance to win. “Speechless” is another single the duo released from their eponymous album. It also followed their hit single “Tequila” on the chart. “Speechless” placed at number one on both the Country and Country Airplay chart. However, the song never won an award, unlike the first single they released from their album.
The song was written by the duo together with Jordan Reynolds and Laura Veltz. They wanted to preserve the way they felt when they saw their wives walking down the aisle for the first time, and they did it. This soulful and romantic country song has made a lot of country fans swoon over it.
The duo will compete with Kane Brown‘s “Heaven,” Luke Combs‘ “She Got the Best of Me,” and Florida Georgia Line‘s “Meant to Be” for this category.
