Do you remember the amazing collaboration of Jimmy Buffet and Alan Jackson for the song “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere?” Well, we can definitely remember that CMA-award winning song of 2003. Today marks the day it went number one on the country chart. Wow! It’s been sixteen years since “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere” hit the top of the chart, but doesn’t it just feel like it was yesterday?
Let’s get to know the song and enjoy ourselves some cold drink because, well, it’s five o’clock somewhere, right? So, here we go.
Alan Jackson Teamed Up with Jimmy Buffet
In 2003, Jackson planned on recording a duet with Buffet, but he had no idea what song they would work on together. When songwriters Jim Brown and Don Rollins pitched the song to him, Jackson finally had the perfect song for him to work with legendary country singer Buffet. The duet was released in June of 2003. Then after two months, it went to number one on the country chart.
Why People Enjoy “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere?”
People enjoyed the song, not only because it was Buffet and Jackson who recorded it, but the song does make sense. A lot of us are fed up with our jobs where we work all day and not get paid enough. Sometimes we just want to run somewhere else but we can’t. That’s why the narrator of the song went to a bar to unwind. Shockingly, he took a break during work hours just to order a glass of something cold and refreshing. It isn’t ‘happy hour’ yet, but he doesn’t care, because for him it’s always five o’clock somewhere.
An’ pour me somethin’ tall an’ strong,
Make it a “Hurricane” before I go insane.
It’s only half-past twelve but I don’t care.
It’s five o’clock somewhere.
The song was first offered to Kenny Chesney but he refused it. If he recorded the song, what would have happened?
If you’re having an exhausting day, here’s the perfect song for you to chill out and grab something cold because no matter where you are, it’s always five o’clock somewhere in the world.
