Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock’s split after seven years of marriage did not only surprise fans but as well as the couple’s inner circle. Though the longtime couple has not publicly commented about the divorce rumors, sources said that their friends and colleagues were absolutely shocked.
“It came out of nowhere,” one source said. “It’s all so sad for the kids. They were always such a loving family. It never seemed like they had any issues.”
Another source close to Clarkson’s daytime show explained, “Brandon was around all the time on almost all show days, and they were very loving towards one another. They drove home from set together every night.”
The first source described the news as “quite shocking” and has revealed that those who personally know Clarkson and Blackstock “have been texting each other over their disbelief that the couple is splitting.”
Clarkson Realized Divorce Was the Only Option
The news of the couple’s looming divorce broke on Thursday. The three-time Grammy winner cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for filing.
Not long after the divorce news went public, legal documents obtained by news media outlets revealed that Clarkson had asked the court to enforce the couple’s prenuptial agreement. This means she won’t have to pay Blackstock any spousal support. In addition to that, the pop star has also asked for joint physical and legal custody of their two kids, River Rose and Remington Alexander.
A source alleged that the couple, who tied the knot back in October 2013, had been having problems for a while before Clarkson made the surprising move to end the marriage. According to sources, working together on The Kelly Clarkson Show had caused a strain in the couple’s relationship.
The source also said that Clarkson had been vocal about her marriage struggles to her closest friends. “Those closest to them know it’s been difficult,” the source said.
Things reportedly made things worse for the two when they had to spend most of their time together in their Montana ranch amid the existing coronavirus pandemic. “The constant time together seemed to make an already challenging situation worse,” the source said. Clarkson eventually “realized divorce was her only option.”
All the time spent in one place supposedly “gave her the time she needed to think about her life and marriage.” It was with so much time to think that Clarkson “knew she just needed to follow her heart.
