Legendary country pop artist and legendary songwriter Mac Davis passed away on September 29 at the age of 78 after some complications following heart surgery.

Mac Davis, Every Hitmaker’s Man for the Job

Davis first earned his success as a songwriter when he wrote ‘90s hits “Don’t Cry Daddy,” “A Less Conversation” and “In The Ghetto” for legend Elvis Presley.  He also wrote various hits like Kenny Rodgers’ “Something’s Burning” which was a Top 20 single in 1970 and “I Believe in Music” by Detroit pop group Gallery that also earned a Top 40 spot in 1972.

The whole country music industry was saddened by the news of country music legend songwriter Mac Davis’ passing. His manager and friend Jim Morey released the sad news on Tuesday. Davis was surrounded by his family in his last moments; his 38 years wife, Lise, and sons Scott, Noah, and Cody.

Morey also took his time to give tribute to Davis whom he acknowledges as a husband, father and grandfather, and friend. He also reminisced the times that he and Davis spent laughing on the road with his insightful sense of humor.

More Condolences

Aside from Jim Morey, a number of country artists took it to their socials to express their grief and condolences to the family of Mac Davis.

Travis Tritt posted on twitter right away when he heard of the sad news, acknowledging how sad the night has become because one of the artists that he has looked up to over the years and the one who he grew up watching has passed away. “This is Heart Breaking!” says Tritt.

Reba McEntire was grateful to know a man like Davis who had an incredible talent and who was one of a kind. McEntire continued by acknowledging the legacy that Davis has left through the music he has made over the years and the joy that he has spread to many. Reba has nothing in her heart but gratitude to know a friend like Davis.

Kenny Chesney recalled the first time he met Mac Davis. He will never forget how Davis welcomed him to his home as a young artist and how he influenced and kindled the passion and creativity in him. Chesney added how he would describe Mac. He describes him as a person with a giant heart, quick to laugh, and a bigger creative spirit.

Lee Greenwood stated that it was impossible to express the grief that he has faced knowing about the passing of Mac Davis. He added that the entertainment industry will truly miss Mac and calling the legendary songwriter a beautiful American.
