With Lady A’s recent milestone – becoming the newest members of the Grand Ole Opry – guess you’re as excited as we are for some Hillary Scott Facts.

Scott is more than just the co-lead singer of the popular country music group; she’s someone whose important contributions to country music are something we can’t deny. She has been making a name for herself as an accomplished singer and songwriter ever since she started pursuing her own career just after high school.

Let’s get to know more about the one-third of Grammy-winning country trio.

1. She’s born in Music City.

Hillary Scott was born on April 1, 1986, in Nashville, Tennessee. And she isn’t the only accomplished musician in her family. Her mother is actually country singer Linda Davis, who was known for singing background vocals for the legendary Reba McEntire. Scott even grew up on tour with McEntire. She would sit on the country superstar’s road cases as a toddler and watch her perform.

Her father, Lang Scott, is also a producer and songwriter.

2. She was only fourteen when she decided to be a country singer.

Scott went to Middle Tennessee State University after high school so she could grow and improve her music career. At the same time, she worked with singer-songwriter Victoria Shaw, who helped her earn some publicity. However, securing a contract with a major label didn’t come easily for the future superstar.

3. She auditioned for American Idol.

Most fans didn’t know that Scott auditioned for American Idol – not once but twice. Unfortunately, she never made it to the judging rounds.

“I literally performed for the production assistants and the interns, and I just didn’t make it,” she said.

4. She got two tattoos.

Scott has two tattoos, a number “14” on her right wrist and a music note – a treble clef – on her right foot.

The number “14” tattoo is very significant to the singer as it represents the age when she realized that music was her calling at the same time, it is the age gap between her and her younger sister Rylee Jean, who was born in 2000.

5. She launched her clothing line.

In 2017, Hillary Scott debuted her clothing line, LaBellum by Hillary Scott – where she incorporated her musical style, lifelong interest in fashion, and her firm quest for comfort.

“It’s important to me to make sure that, as best I can with every piece of clothing in this collection, that a woman will only feel better about herself when they put it on,” the singer said.

6. She’s close friends with fellow country singer Kelsea Ballerini.

Some friendships are indeed created inside Nashville, and it’s enough to match any family bond – the sisterhood between Kelsea Ballerini and Scott is a proof of that. The two talented singers have grown to respect one another, not only professionally but as well as personally.

In fact, when Ballerini earned her first No. 1 hit – thanks to “Love Me Like You Mean It” – Scott gifted her with a gold necklace, saying it’s her golden ticket.

“Hillary is such a dimensional artist. She’s a songwriter to her core,” Ballerini gushed about Scott. “She has so many layers that make her unique in her well-deserved success.”

7. She released a gospel album.

In 2016, Scott released a gospel album, Love Remains – a strong yet sweet way to celebrate faith and family harmony.

The side project was in collaboration with her musician father, country singer mother, and her little sister. The entire Scott family teamed up on thirteen songs that are a combination of timeless songs, newly written hymns, and spiritual covers.

“Thy Will” is the album’s faith-filled first single, and it was inspired by the heartbreaking miscarriage she went through in 2015.

8. She loves touring during summertime.

Summer tours have always been Scott’s favorite, all because she gets to track down some of the best foods on fairs and festivals.

“I’m a huge fan of chocolate-covered bananas,” the singer said. “I love those! They’re frozen like a Popsicle.”

9. She’s married to drummer Chris Tyrrell.

In 2012, she married Chris Tyrell in Upstate New York in front of family and close friends. “I’ve found a guy who truly embraces me for who I am and appreciates the things that I don’t necessarily love about myself,” the singer said.

Scott and Tyrell actually met when they were still in college. Though they went into different schools in Tennessee, fate led them together as they were introduced by mutual friends. But they were not able to get to know each other deeper until 2010. They got the chance to reconnect while they were both opening up for Tim McGraw on his Southern Voice tour.

10. She’s a mother of three.

A year after getting married, Scott and Tyrell became first-time parents when they welcomed their daughter, Eisele Kaye, into the world. Five years later, the couple was again blessed with twins Betsy Mack and Emory JoAnn.

Hillary Scott currently resides in Brentwood, Tennessee, with her family, and she has indeed adjusted well to being a mom of three.
