Are you looking for the perfect song to be added to your beach or summer playlist? Well, Alan Jackson’s “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere” should be on top of your choices.

Jackson teamed up with Jimmy Buffett to create not only one of the best island-ready tunes but also one of the greatest drinking anthems ever recorded as they encourage pouring some drinks any time of the day without a hint of regret – because, in the end, it is five o’clock in someplace.

Indeed, this is one of the best Alan Jackson songs wherein two talented singers trade vocals and even some amusing banter at the song’s end. “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere” turned out to be a huge hit for both Jackson and Buffet.

It was released in 2003 as the lead single from Alan Jackson‘s compilation album Greatest Hits Volume II. It then landed on top of the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, where it remained No. 1 for eight non-consecutive weeks. It also successfully crossed over to the pop chart, peaking at No. 17 on Billboard Hot 100 – making it Jackson’s biggest pop hit while Buffett’s first since the 1970s.

That same year, the song received the Vocal Event of the Year Award from the Country Music Association.

Story Behind The Song

Don Rollins and Jim “Moose” Brown wrote the catchy song together. Rollins remembered the first time he heard the phrase “It’s five o’clock somewhere” when a colleague of his mentioned it during his days as a band teacher. He immediately liked the idea and wrote the song with Rollins really quickly.

However, when the duo offered the song to artists like Kenny Chesney and Colt Prather, it ended up being rejected. Luckily, Jackson took it and turned it into a hit.

Well, Jackson is, without a doubt, not going to waste a good drink – or in this case, a good song. Play the video below to listen to Alan Jackson’s “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere.”
