If you feel down during a downpour, it’s not your imagination. The bad weather can influence in myriad subtle ways. So it’s always a good idea to have an arsenal of country songs about storms to provide a soundtrack to the ruthless reminder of nature’s power.

Rain on shine, country songs have you covered.

1. “Perfect Storm” by Brad Paisley

The smash single from Paisley’s album, Moonshine in the Trunk, “Perfect Storm” is a classic country love song about a dream layered and complex like a storm. But what makes this stand out is Paisley’s stellar guitar skills that are on full display in this track, making a storm of powerful riffs on their own.

2. “The Thunder Rolls” by Garth Brooks

Brooks was only a struggling songwriter when he teamed up with Nashville writer Pat Alger and penned “The Thunder Rolls.” Tanya Tucker was the first to record this song, but it didn’t make it to her album.

Brooks ended up recording the song, and took it to the top of Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. It finds the country crooner telling the tale of a cheating husband driving home in an actual storm. The sound of thunder can also be heard in the song.

3. “Every Storm (Runs Out of Rain)” by Gary Allan

Allan’s fastest-rising single, “Every Storm (Runs Out of Rain),” offers a story of hope, reminding us of our ability to recover from difficult times. Allan co-wrote the hopeful ballad with Hillary Lindsey and Matt Warren, who came up with the idea for the song after a frustrating day.

4. “Blown Away” by Carrie Underwood

“Blown Away” is Underwood’s 2012 hit song that touched on the personal battle children of alcoholics had to face. It tells the story of a young girl who takes refuge from a tornado in her basement — while her abusive, alcoholic father stays “passed out on the couch.”

5. “Hurricane” by Luke Combs

There’s no doubt that songs about hurricanes always take country music by storm.

Luke Combs earned a No. 1 hit with his debut single, “Hurricane.” The breakup song uses the massive amounts of destruction as a metaphor for the experience of feeling ruined by someone else. It’s about the feeling of knowing that someone who came into your life just made a huge impact, but not the good kind.

6. “Storm Warning” by Hunter Hayes

Released as the first single off Haye’s debut album, “Storm Warning” tells the tale of a man who compares the woman he likes to a hurricane. He’s falling in love so hard and fast that he wishes he had a storm warning for her.

7. “Tornado” by Little Big Town

What’s a better way to symbolize a woman’s anger at her unfaithful lover than a tornado? There’s probably none! And with lead vocals from Karen Fairchild and the group’s go-to girl attitude, Little Big Town has indeed created the perfect storm.

8. “When It Rains” by Eli Young Band

While most people prefer the warmth of the sunshine, Eli Young Band took a different perspective, explaining that rain is actually a relief. This is because it’s not uncommon for people to feel sad in rainy seasons, so he can easily blend in with the crowd as there’s no need for him to pretend to be happy.

9. “Colder Weather” by Zac Brown Band

Zac Brown Band tells the story of a trucker who spent most of his time on the road away from his woman in “Colder Weather.” As much as he wants to come back to her, the winter storm is keeping him away.

10. “Thunder In The Rain” by Kane Brown

Brown recalled writing the song, revealing that he got the title from a line in a magazine. He took it in, saying, “I came up with the idea to just talk about two unstoppable forces in a relationship and how nothing would come between them.”
