Born into a family that for three generations has been making a living playing music, Daniel de los Reyes is keeping the torch burning brighter than ever.
De los Reyes’ grandfather, Walfredo de los Reyes II, is actually one of the founding members of the Orquesta Casino de la Playa, a renowned orchestra in Cuba that launched the career of many important musicians in Cuban music.

His father, Walfredo de los Reyes III, was also one of the most successful and influential drummers and percussionists in Cuba before the family moved on to Puerto Rico and then the United States. He’s one of the first drummers to have added congas and other percussion to his drum set – setting a standard that many popular drummers would follow.
So, it’s no surprise when de los Reyes was drawn to drum sets and percussion instruments from a very young age. The talented artist said he has been playing the instruments as far back as he can remember. He has heard various different styles and rhythms from the day he was born. “I think I was probably banging inside my mother’s womb until she could stand it no more,” de los Reyes jokingly said.
He Is Absolutely Standing Up To The De Los Reyes Name
From boundless access to a myriad of drum sets and percussion instruments to the privilege of having the best teachers any artist could ever dream of, Daniel de los Reyes’ path seems to have chosen him.
Before becoming one of Zac Brown Band members in 2012, de los Reyes already had a resume jam packed with performing and recording credits with some of the biggest names in the industry. This includes Jennifer Lopez, Don Henley Chicago, to name a few.
Today, he is also helping preserve the rich history of Cuban music’s Golden Era by leading Clave de Alma. This project commits to bring the audiences back in time through a documentary-style trip into the music.
