Sam Williams, the son of Country Music Hall of Famer Hank Williams Jr., took to social media to express his grief with the recent death of his mother, Mary Jane Thomas.
Thomas unexpectedly died on Tuesday (March 22) in Jupiter, Florida. According to sources close to the family, the former model and native of Daytona Beach, Florida, suffered complications after a medical procedure. While the investigation is still in its burgeoning stages, there is no suspicion of foul play.
Remembering His Mother’s Beautiful Soul
“My dear Mama Mary Jane was a beautiful soul who forever affected everyone who knew her,” the younger Williams wrote. He went on remembering all the wonderful memories he has with his mother, like how her smile and presence were always enough to light up the room and how she could quickly befriend a stranger. Sam also remembered her mother’s gentle and giving spirit.
Thomas met Hank Williams Jr. in Washington State in 1985 and was married five years later. In his post, Sam also gave a glimpse of the couple’s wonderful love story, saying that his father fell in love with the Hawaiian Tropics’ model the minute he set eyes on her. “They went on to live the most powerful love story of travel and hunting and raising a family,” he said.
In addition to Sam Williams, the couple was also blessed with daughter Katie Williams-Dunning. Sadly, she died in a car accident in 2020. Now, Sam knew her mother would radiate from above with his sister by her side.

Sam has followed in the musical footsteps of his legendary father and grandfather. In 2021, he released a striking debut album, “Glasshouse Children,” where he showcased his gift for emotionally potent songcraft.
Anyway, we’re sharing in Sam’s sadness – and the rest of Mary Jane Thomas‘ family – as they remember her.
