Fellow country superstars and longtime friends Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley joined forces for a performance of “Whiskey Lullaby” during Grand Ole Opry’s 4,940th consecutive Saturday night broadcast in 2020 – and the pair didn’t fail to blow the audience away.

Underwood and Paisley kicked their breathtaking performance with “Jesus Take The Wheel,” along with other classics such as “Will The Circle Be Unbroken” and “Remind Me.” But it was their tear-jerking duet to one of the saddest songs to ever grace country music that became the highlight of their Opry appearance.

While the pair’s version was straightforward and acoustic, with Paisley strumming his guitar and singing along with Underwood, it stuns fans the most.

Paisley has been an Opry member since 2001, while Underwood has been with the iconic country music organization since 2008.

A Tragic Song About Betrayal

Written by Bill Anderson and Jon Randall, “Whiskey Lullaby” was inspired by a tough time Randall went through – including a divorce from country star Lorrie Morgan. It was then released as a duet by Brad Paisley and bluegrass artist Alison Krauss off Paisley’s 2004 album, Mud on the Tires. The heart-breaking ballad centers on a couple and the painful separation that led to their death. It then went on to win the 2005 Country Music Association Song of the Year Award.

Carrie Underwood often sang “Whiskey Lullaby” with Brad Paisley when they toured together early in her career. This includes a riveting performance at the final show of their tour together in 2006, where young Underwood’s powerful voice was met with a round of applause.

Anyway, you can watch in the video below Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley’s performance of “Whiskey Lullaby” during their visit to the Opry. The Grand Ole Opry house is truly blessed to have these renowned legends perform on its stage.
