Can you imagine other artists singing Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn’s “Lead Me On?” Well, it looks like George Strait and Martina McBride did a great job! In 2019, thousands of fans gathered in Nashville for an hours-long birthday celebration dedicated to the one and only Loretta Lynn.

The Country Music Hall of Famer was honored like royalty, with some of the biggest names in the genre coming on stage, one after another, to share their rendition of Lynn’s greatest hits over the years. Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, Miranda Lambert, Alan Jackson, and Darius Rucker are just some of the most iconic artists who sang her praises while she sat side-stage at Bridgestone Arena.

During a short break, interview clips from Lynn as well as her family and friends were also shown, and it highlighted her groundbreaking, no-holds-barred songwriting style. The next part of Lynn’s birthday celebration recognized her strings of duets with fellow country legend Conway Twitty.

Twitty and Lynn changed the game in country music when they teamed up many decades ago to build a legacy that would expand far past their generation. Between 1971 and 1988, the beloved duo released eleven studio albums together and charted more than ten singles, five of which ranked No. 1 on the country chart – this includes “Lead Me On,” which was released as the title track of Twitty and Lynn’s 1971 album.

One Of The Surprisingly Great, Moments Of The Night

Without a doubt, “Lead Me On” is one of the songs that’s difficult for others to recreate – most especially the sense of passion that made Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn‘s recording stand out among the rest.

However, during Lynn’s 87th birthday celebration in Nashville, two country icons just successfully immortalized the song even further – and these are none other than George Strait and Martina McBride.

The two did not only channel Twitty and Lynn’s chemistry that seemed so real but even added more heat into it that you could instantly feel the temperature rising amid the energetic crowd. Their performance still delivers the same magic that once made every country fan feel weak in the knees several decades ago.
