Gathering the best Brad Paisley songs is absolutely a challenging thing to do! After all, he is without a doubt one of the finest male country artists to emerge in the 2000s.

Over the past two decades, the West Virginia native has released some of the most poignant, compelling songs in the history of country music, heightened with comedic, novelty tracks that truly showcase not just his musical flexibility but as well as his massive personality and country twang.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of his best hits so far. Keep on scrolling below to find out.

1. Letter to Me

From: 5th Gear (2007)

Brad Paisley was inspired to write this nostalgic ballad after his wife, Kimberly, was asked in 2007 to write for the anthology titled, What I Know Now: Letters to My Younger Self. The moment he heard about the book, Paisley quickly thought that the notion of writing a letter to his younger self would make a great country ballad!

And indeed, he’s right! The song – where he reflects on people and moments that have shaped him – has become one of his biggest hits to date!

2. Whiskey Lullaby

From: Mud On The Tires (2003)

Paisley joined forces with fellow country superstar Alison Krauss for this acoustic ballad “Whiskey Lullaby,” that tells the story of a couple who goes through a painful separation that eventually led to their demise. In the first verse, Paisley sings about the devastated man drinking himself to death over a broken heart. Krauss sings in the second verse of the woman drowning her guilt with alcohol until her very last breath.

While it was deeply chilling, Paisley and Krauss resonate throughout each line they sing.

3. This Is Country Music

From: This Is Country Music (2010)

Paisley co-wrote this song with frequent co-writer Chris DuBois, which he described as his love song to his fans, “who live all our songs every day,” as well as the industry that produces music that becomes “the soundtrack to people’s lives.”

But what makes it a standout is that it contains references to several country classics such as songs by George Jones, Conway Twitty, George Strait, Tammy Wynette, and several others.

4. When I Get Where I’m Going

From: Time Well Wasted (2005)

This beautiful anthem features Dolly Parton on harmony vocals – where Paisley imagined the afterlife “on the far side of the sky,” where he is going to meet his lost loved ones.

“When I Get Where I’m Going” won various awards, including a Vocal Event of the Year from the Country Music Association Award, where it also earned Single and Video of the Year nominations.

5. Remind Me

From: This Is Country Music (2010)

Paisley collaborated with another country queen; this time, it was none other than Carrie Underwood. The two talented artists sing about a married couple making an effort to rekindle the flame of their relationship.

“Remind Me” was inspired by Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty’s duet of “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man” – where instead of trading verses, Paisley and Underwood traded question and answer.

6. I’m Gonna Miss Her (The Fishin’ Song)

From: Part II (2002)

While he sang plenty of ballads, Paisley added a novelty song to his repertoire with this hilarious tune that tells the story of a man whose lover has given him an ultimatum: fishing or her.

The man apparently chose the thing he loves more! Of course, he went ahead fishing and stated he would miss her when he got home.

7. No I In Beer

Released as a single (2020)

While this wasn’t exactly a big hit for Paisley, “No I In Beer” is a great song that took on a whole new meaning during the turbulent times amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

The music video makes the song even more special as Paisley enlists the help of fellow country stars to participate in the project. This includes Carrie Underwood, Tim McGraw, Darius Rucker, and more – along with over 200 fans performing the song safely from home.

8. She’s Everything

From: Time Well Wasted (2006)

The song was written by Nashville songwriter Wil Nance with his wife Holly in mind. When Paisley heard the demo, he quickly fell in love with the song and wanted to change the lyrics, so they were more closely to his own life.

“She’s Everything” finds Paisley singing praises to his dream girl, who is none other than his wife, Kimberly.

9. He Didn’t Have to Be

From: Who Needs Pictures (1999)

Paisley co-wrote the song with his frequent collaborator and best friend, Kelley Lovelace. It was based on Lovelace’s relationship with his stepson McCain Merren wherein it tells the point of view of a single mother’s son and their journey of welcoming a new man into their lives.

The song ends with the son ready to become a father himself, hoping he can be as best as his stepfather.

10. Anything Like Me

From: American Saturday Night (2009)

Paisley finds himself singing about an anxious husband after discovering he and his wife will soon have a son. The country star revealed that he wrote the song hoping – at the same time, worrying – that his oldest son Huck would grow up as he did.

Several soon-to-be fathers surely relate to the song as it ranked No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.
