Shortly after Lee Ann Womack released her eponymous debut album twenty-five years ago, she swiftly leaped into the country mainstream for good, never looking back. She soared to incredible heights of success and is being widely lauded as one of Nashville’s great voices.

To celebrate her illustrious career, we have gathered some of the fun facts about her that you might not know yet. Check them out below.

1. She’s a native of Jacksonville, Texas.

The country singer, whose real name is Lee Ann Womack Liddell, was born on August 19, 1966, to a schoolteacher mother and a high school principal father.

2. She loved music as a young child.

Womack’s father was actually a part-time disc jockey and would often take his daughter to work. Womack would then help her father choose a record to play on the air. As she grew up, Womack’s love for music grew even bigger. She studied piano and enrolled in a country music curriculum at South Plains Junior College in Levelland, Texas. She joined the college band Country Caravan and toured as a vocalist.

Womack later enrolled at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, where she studied the commercial aspect of the music business.

3. She worked as an intern at MCA Nashville when she was still in college.

However, Womack admitted to hanging out at the label most of the time rather than going to class.

4. She’s married twice.

In 1990, Womack left school shortly before graduation and married her college sweetheart, singer-songwriter Jason Sellers. The two were blessed with a daughter named Aubrie Sellers. However, the couple broke up, making Womack a single mother – an unfortunate event that made her pursue her passion and desire to sing more earnestly.

In 1999, she married record producer Frank Liddell, whose production credits include Miranda Lambert‘s records. They have a daughter, Annalise Liddell.

5. She gets most of her songwriting ideas while driving.

Driving on a long road, whenever she is alone, or when everyone else is asleep, proves to be productive for Womack as it is where she gets her ideas for her next song.

6. She’s a mom of a country singer.

Womack’s daughter Aubrie has followed in her musical footsteps. Aubrie released her debut album in 2016 to kickstart a country career of her own. She was also featured on Ralph Stanley‘s album, Ralph Stanley and Friends: A Man of Constant Sorrow, where she sang with her mother.

7. She only had one Billboard No. 1 hit.

It’s quite hard to believe that despite the success of Lee Ann Womack songs, it was only her 2000 hit song “I Hope You Dance” that went No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Songs chart – where it stayed for five remarkable weeks. It also crossed over to the pop charts, peaking at No. 14 on Billboard Hot 100.

Still, Lee Ann Womack has made her mark in the music industry.
