Many country songs have been released throughout the years, but only a few have stayed iconic. “Wichita Lineman” is one of them. The song has been referred to as “the first existential country song.”

That said, there is no doubt why many artists have decided to cover it. Aside from known singers, it is also widely heard in known music competition shows like The Voice. One of the known The Voice contestants who have performed the song is the sibling trio group called Girl Named Tom.

They chose to give this Glen Campbell classic a performance in honor of their father, who’s been battling an extremely rare form of cancer since 2017. The trio described their father as being positive about every treatment he undergoes. Since the song describes an ordinary person with extraordinary thoughts, it is perfect for honoring their father.

In 1968, American songwriter Jimmy Webb wrote the popular tune. The Wrecking Crew members backed Glen Campbell, the first-ever artist who released the song. The song has remained one of the all-time greats in the world of country music.

But returning to the trio’s performance, it was among the greatest the stage of The Voice has ever seen. All four coaches gave them a standing ovation. Kelly Clarkson selected Girl Named Tom as the winner over Kentucky native Holly Forbes, who also performed “Superstar” by The Carpenters soulfully.

There is no question about that because they had a heartfelt rendition of the song. The song’s lyrics are sung with excellent diction and emotion. Everyone who listens to it would feel the song’s affinity to the three, making the performance personal and true. The performance is also one of the group’s performances that helped them reach the top. It certainly helped them become the first-ever trio to win The Voice
