There’s actually a historic milestone among the top three hit singles in the top 40 country songs for August 2023. In case you missed it, Jason Aldean’s “Try In A Small Town,” Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night,” and Luke Combs’ “Fast Car” claimed the top three spots on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The trio marks the first time three country songs have led the pack since the chart was launched 65 years ago.

Jason Aldean’s single reigns amid buzz after its music video was pulled out from CMT rotation following massive criticism. Morgan Wallen’s viral hit follows Aldean closely, while six more of his songs are still taking over this list. Indeed, Wallen has now become one of the genre’s most celebrated singer-songwriters.

1. Try That In A Small Town by Jason Aldean

After facing backlash following the music video’s release accompanying “Try That in a Small Town,” Jason Aldean now finds himself having a historic run.

Streams for the controversial song have now jumped 999 percent, selling over 200,000 units – enough to help the track ascend to the peak of Billboard’s all-genre singles chart. The song is Aldean’s first No. 1 single on the said chart in his almost two-decade career.

2. Last Night by Morgan Wallen

Another song making history is none other than Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night.”

The fan-favorite tune from Wallen’s latest album, One Thing At A Time, is not only the country star’s first No. 1 hit on Billboard Hot 100 but is actually the longest-running No. 1 on the said chart this year – ranking atop for 14 non-consecutive weeks. Isn’t it just that amazing?

3. Fast Car by Luke Combs

Well, Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” continues to find a new audience – thanks to Luke Combs’ cover, which is now one of the holders for the longest Country Airplay domination among remakes of pop hits. Remarkably, Combs’ version made Chapman the first Black woman to top Country Airplay as a solo writer since it was created in 1990.

4. Need a Favor by Jelly Roll

Jelly Roll’s “Need a Favor” is a familiar song for anyone who hasn’t bowed their head in a while. The poignant ballad tells the story of a man on the verge of losing the love of his life. Running out of options, he turned to the Almighty for help – though he knew he didn’t deserve it.

5. Religiously by Bailey Zimmerman

Bailey Zimmerman took a somewhat different approach from his more confrontational and devastating chart-toppers as he delved into the shadows of love’s dark side in “Religiously.” Nevertheless, he is consistent with how he bares his heartfelt emotion.

6. Thinkin’ Bout Me by Morgan Wallen

Morgan Wallen has mastered post-breakup songs! Look at “Thinkin’ Bout Me,” for example, which finds the country singer singing to a past lover, asking her directly if she still thinks of him whenever she’s with her new man.

7. White Horse by Chris Stapleton

“White Horse” has become another crown jewel for Chris Stapleton as it debuted at No. 7 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. In addition, the song also nabbed 135 adds on country radio upon its release, marking the biggest add day this year by far.

8. Love You Anyway by Luke Combs

When Combs gave his fans a chance to decide his next single, it’s no surprise “’Love You Anyway” proved victorious. Since then, it has steadily climbed the charts and endlessly captured the hearts of many country fans.

9. Bury Me In Georgia by Kane Brown

“Bury Me in Georgia” is the opening track of Kane Brown’s third studio album Different Man, and the moment you listen to it, you will know how powerful the entire project is.

The song got Brown singing about needing only one thing when he dies, which is not fame or fortune, but rather simply wanting to be buried in Georgia, where he was raised.

10. I Can See You by Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift’s Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) landed at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart after its release, while all 22 of the re-recorded tracks hit Hot Country Songs. It, of course, includes “I Can See You,” which peaked at No. 3

11. You, Me, And Whiskey by Justin Moore and Priscilla Block

Justin Moore joined forces with fast-rising country singer Priscilla Block for “You, Me, And Whiskey,” where they took turns singing about taking a break from the daily grind to turn it up and let loose with a bottle of whiskey and, of course, each other’s company.

12. Your Heart Or Mine by Jon Pardi

Since Jon Pardi released “Your Heart Or Mine” in 2022, it has become one of the highly regarded tracks from his fourth studio album, Mr. Saturday Night. Here, Pardi showcases his ability to blend modern country with a much more traditional-leaning sound – and it’s just incredible.

13. Watermelon Moonshine by Lainey Wilson

Lainey Wilson got the country music world smiling to themselves as they can’t help but lean hard into nostalgia and reminisce on past loves whenever they listen to “Watermelon Moonshine.” The romantic ballad will take you on a ride through first love’s sweet memories intertwined with the intoxicating power of the liquor.

14. Heartbroken by Diplo, Jessie Murph & Polo G

Diplo’s country project, Diplo Presents Thomas Wesley: Chapter 2 – Swamp Savant, found the superstar DJ and sought-after producer collaborating with some of the biggest names in country music today.

Surprisingly, “Heartbroken” – which sings about how the power of love calms an aching heart – had Diplo teaming up with two unexpected artists: alt-pop singer-songwriter Jessie Murph and rapper Polo G.

15. Everything I Love by Morgan Wallen

“Everything I Love” repeats a successful formula for Wallen being a heartbreaking ballad referencing country living. So, it’s no surprise when this infectious song with honky-tonk leanings quickly became a fan favorite.

The song tells the story of a man left by his woman like a cloud of dust. As a result, everything he loves has been ruined – including his hometown, where he brought her to meet his mama.
