Ahead of Valentine’s Day, on February 10, 2023, Luke Combs released “Love You Anyway” as the lead single off his fourth studio album, Gettin’ Old.

The love and heartbreak song immediately captured the hearts of many fans, and it reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart. Amazingly, Combs’ version of “Fast Car” ranked at No. 2 that same week, thus making it the first time in that chart’s history wherein the top two spots were at once occupied by a solo act.

It’s also only the second time that any act in general has accomplished such a feat. Truly, Combs’ chart success is full-blown awesome!

“Love You Anyway” also ranked No. 3 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart while peaking at No. 15 on Billboard Hot 100.

Behind The Song

Written by Luke Combs and frequent collaborators Ray Fulcher and Dan Isbell, “Love You Anyway” tells a man’s unwavering love for his romantic partner – even if he knows their relationship will somehow lead to heartbreak.

In an Instagram post, Combs revealed that the wistful ballad was inspired by none other than his wife, Nicole Hocking. Apparently, the song’s origins go way back to a show on Valentine’s Day in 2020, when Combs dedicated his hit song “Beautiful Crazy” to Nicole, his fiancée then.

“If you’re in here, I love you. If not, you know I do anyway,” Combs said during the concert. Little did Combs know that Isbell took note of “Love You Anyway” as a possible song title.

Three years later, Isbell shared the idea with Combs and Fulcher. The trio then decided to pen a tune about loving someone with such intensity that you’d keep loving them, even if you know they might eventually hurt you deeply.
