In 2017, as part of her album, “Sing It Now: Songs of Faith & Hope,” Reba McEntire released her own version of the hit gospel song “Oh Happy Day”.

“Oh My Day” was written by Philip Doddridge during the 18th century. Upon its release, the 1755 gospel hymn has continued to soar up to the charts for decades, even centuries after.

“Oh My Day” is one of the few gospel songs that has reached the No. 1 spot on different music charts across the globe. Some of these are “France (SNEP),” “Germany (Official German Charts),” and “Switzerland (Schweizer Hitparade).”

Reba McEntire’s Version

Reba McEntire’s version of the song will surely make you want to stand up and praise God all day long. Her perfectly velvety voice compliments the mellow message of the song, giving her performance that magical flair.

McEntire’s version is a little more upbeat and modern than the original. The recording of the song is unique in some sense, as she incorporated some adlibs and choir sounds in the background.

Her love for country music and faith in God has probably contributed to the success of her cover. The way she has perfectly joined together both the country and gospel styles without flop is worth noting.

It is known by many that McEntire is a woman of God. In an interview, she stated that her faith is behind her long and successful career. That is why she made it her mission to find songs to record that will touch people’s hearts and bring them closer to God.
