Country singer Jelly Roll, who’s quickly becoming one of the biggest artists of the genre, has had a very busy start to his year. First, he made his commercial debut, where he expressed his regrets over his face tattoos. Then, he made an impassioned plea to Congress regarding his fentanyl advocacy. After that, he attended the Grammys as a first-time nominee and then announced his Beautifully Broken Tour with Live Nation.
Who is the guy with tattoos in the Uber Eats commercial? Jelly Roll.
Jelly Roll joined Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer, David and Victoria Beckham, and Usher as stars for the Super Bowl Uber Eats ad campaign. The ad is about things they forget. Aniston forgot she was Friends with Schwimmer; Victoria forgot she was a Spice Girl; Usher forgot he was the halftime’s show performer, and Jelly Roll forgot he had tattoos on his face.
In his segment, the country singer was putting away his toiletries. Then, as soon as he closed the medicine cabinet and saw his face in the mirror, he was so surprised to see his heavily tattooed face. He thought someone had doodled on his face. A few seconds later, he was screaming his head off that they were not coming off.
In the full version, “What happened to my face?! Are these tattoos?” Jelly Roll exclaims in his 15-second Super Bowl ad for the online food delivery service Uber Eats. And not only is he in disbelief, but he’s also full of regrets, calling them “horrible.” And it was hilarious.
In a later interview, he admitted that there was some truth to his tattoo regrets. He said, “I don’t think they’re great… I’ve had them so long, I forget they’re there sometimes.”
Fentanyl Advocacy: “Be proactive and not reactive”
As to his advocacy against Fentanyl, Jelly Roll, known as Jason DeFord, in January testified to the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs regarding the FEND (Fentanyl Eradication and Narcotics Deterrence) Off Fentanyl Act, encouraging its passage.
He talked about his drug dealing history and shared his experience of having someone in his life die of a fentanyl overdose. He urged the government to be proactive and not reactive. “Fentanyl transcends partisanship and ideology,” he added.
Jelly Roll Grammy Nominations
In November 2023, Jelly Roll posted a tearful video of him reacting to getting nominated for the Grammys, calling it the greatest honor. And it wasn’t just one but two Grammy nominations – Best New Artist and Best Country Duo/Group Performance for “Save Me” with Lainey Wilson. And while he didn’t win in either category, it was still a big accomplishment!
As of press time, he is on his way to performing from coast to coast for his Beautifully Unbroken Tour with Warren Zeiders and Alexandra Kay as opening acts that kick off on August 27.
Jelly Roll continues to wear many hats as a country music singer and an advocate and will continue to do so in the future. While we wait for Jelly Roll to go on tour, let’s catch his Super Bowl ad once again.
