From his sixth album, Sounds Like Life, Darryl Worley delivers a moving message with “Sounds Like Life to Me” as its second track. Before he released the song on January 27, 2009, the country singer kept it for several years with Wynn Varble and Phil O’Donnell before including it on the album. During a Songwriter Session at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in 2017, Worley told the audience that he drew inspiration from a story of his dad that presented an outlook on life challenges.
The song peaked at No. 11 on US Hot Country Songs and No. 38 on Billboard Country Canada chart the same year of its release.
Meaning Behind The Song
As one of Worley’s successful records from his sixth album, “Sounds Like Life to Me,” was inspired by a real-life moment of negativities in life. When he visited a close friend at an old, rickety bar, he tried to convince him to get out of the place so his sober years wouldn’t go to waste. He opened up about his problems and told him: “Well, it sounds like life to me. We’re all in the same boat…”
With its upbeat and positive rhythm, the song is about getting back up again and seeing the bright side of life. As the song reaches its climax, a playful guitar riff exits the song.
His honest interpretation of life’s realities is an epitome of traditional country style. Worley’s warm and uplifting voice in the song offers comfort to those hurting.
