In 2015, Patty Loveless and Vince Gill surprised the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame audience when they unexpectedly did their cover of Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn‘s classic hit “After the Fire Is Gone.”

Patty Loveless is an American Country Music singer known for her firm yet vulnerable vocal style. She has a talent for blending non-traditional country, country pop, and bluegrass music into one.

Vince Gill, on the other hand, loves to sing in multiple genres, such as rock, but over the years, he slowly became a staple name in country music. Gill is mostly known for his songwriting style, tenor singing voice, and lead guitar performance, with many critics highlighting his prolificacy in ballads and up-tempo stuff. That is why when fans found out they were performing in a duet, the crowd just couldn’t help but get excited.

Austin City Limits is known as the oldest-running music television show in history. Although the music show is mostly known for rock and roll artists, it still features a variety of distinctive styles of music from around the world, including country music.

Patty Loveless and Vince Gill, in particular, amazed the audience during their live performance in one of the episodes of the show.

Before the performance started, Patty went on to introduce Vince as someone special to her. In the performance, Patty’s high-pitched tone complimented Vince’s mellow voice, and the two maintained eye contact, highlighting that strong connection between the two. Shortly after the performance, the two artists embrace each other warmly and bow to loud applause from the audience.

Compared to the original, Patty and Vince’s version has a more modern take on it, with most of the instrumentals used being electric guitars and drums, making their cover sound appealing to new-generation listeners.

Many listeners know it takes an amazing singer to cover a famous classic, and Vince and Patty surely nailed their performance that night.
