Known for turning song covers into an original record, vocal prowess Kelly Clarkson just added Miranda Lambert’s “Tin Man” to her list of covers you should listen to. Clarkson shows off her timeless talent with the powerful cover during her 2019 Meaning of Life Tour at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif.
The song was originally the third track from Miranda Lambert’s album The Weight of These Wings (2016), which was co-written by her, along with Jack Ingram and Jon Randall.
The American Idol Season 1 grand champ serenaded the fans with her 2000s classics and sang Lambert’s record right after. While casually holding a glass of wine in the middle of the concert, Kelly Clarkson introduced “Tin Man” to fans, saying: “I love when I hear a song and I wish I’d written it. It’s [like] such a bummer when you’re like, ‘Damn, I could’ve done that.’”
As she started singing the melancholic song, Clarkson’s incredible performance left fans in awe with her astounding vocal runs and unparalleled vocal belts. She ended the song beautifully and described Lambert as “one hell of a writer,” making it an unforgettable moment for everyone at the arena.
Clarkson said in an interview with Marie Claire that the goal for this tour was to cover classic and newly released songs that inspired her to keep going. “My point with that is that I’m going to be covering songs that I probably shouldn’t, but I’m going to do it anyway!” she added.
