Willie Nelson’s 4th of July Picnic is moving into its new home at the birthplace of America. The now-iconic event will take place on July 4, 2024, Independence Day, at the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion in Camden, New Jersey. The open-air amphitheater just sits across the Delaware River.

The singer launched the series in 1973 with an inaugural three-day run at Hurlbut Ranch in Dripping Springs, Texas. The venue paid homage to the Dripping Springs Reunion that he had played a year prior and inspired the creation of the event. Most recently, Q2 Stadium, Austin’s first major league sports stadium and home to the Major League Soccer (MLS) club for men’s professional soccer, hosted the annual picnic.

This year, they’re stepping out of the Lone Star State and making their way to Philadelphia. And they’re bringing in the giants for a whole day of performances, like Bob Dylan and Robert Plant & Alison Krauss. Of course, Willie Nelson is still performing this year. In last year’s edition, which was also its 50th anniversary, they invited Tyler Childers, Dwight Yoakam, Shakey Graves, Shane Smith & The Saints, Sierra Ferrell, Asleep At The Wheel, and Particle Kid.

While this is the first Philly stop, it isn’t the first time they held it outside Texas. In 1977, they forayed into Tulsa, Oklahoma, holding the event at Tulsa Fairgrounds Speedway. A year later, they performed at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, and in 2007, they celebrated the picnic at The Gorge in Quincy, Washington.
