On the road to becoming a country breakout star, Ashley Cooke is an up-and-coming artist who is known for her smash hit “Your Place” in 2023. She brings down-to-earth vibes into the music scene with her masterfully written lyrics and effortless singing. The emerging artist brings out the magic between heartbeats that gather both old and modern country lovers into the same room. Cooke’s domination in the music charts and critically acclaimed performances is a feather in her cap.

From domestic to global streams, the chart-climbing singer-songwriter’s free-spirited and vibrant aura leaves a mystery that will pique your curiosity. If you’re itching to know her, then keep scrolling and get to know these 5 interesting facts about Ashley Cooke!

1. A singer-songwriter since 11 years old

Ashley Cooke had visited Nashville several times as a kid, where her family would bring her around before she was too young to drive. At 11, her passion for music grew, and fell in love with the country genre’s culture. Although no one in her family was musically inclined and only had little exposure to country music, she began writing poetry and songs as a tween under the influence of household names such as Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts, Florida-Georgia Line, and Jason Aldean.

“I didn’t grow up in music at all. My parents were not musical,” Cooke shared with Journalist Bethany Bowman. And yet, here she is, a country songwriter on demand on radio stations and all over streaming platforms!

2. She has lived in 19 homes before turning 18!

From a small town in Parkland, Florida, to Nashville, Tennessee, this rising country star chased creative ambitions across states. Cooke’s father’s corporate job led her family to move frequently, and she even went to Los Angeles to support her older sister Jenn’s Hollywood dream.

While her sister loved acting and pageantry, Cooke grew up as a tomboy who loved sports. She doesn’t enjoy the spotlight, but the entertainment industry has aroused her musical passion. Once, the sisters performed together, but Cooke was obviously destined to be a solo artist.

3. She was chosen as Country Showcase in Belmont

From wandering around to finally moving to Nashville at 18, Cooke went to Belmont University to major in Corporate Communication and minor in Marketing. It might have nothing to do with music, but it didn’t stop her from winning Belmont’s Country Showcase in 2019. She had the audience dance along and wave to the beat of her lively performances, especially when she covered “The Middle” by Grey, Maren Morris, and Zedd.

Since then, she has pursued a full-time career in music and never looked back. From an independent artist with the album Already Drank That Beer (2021) to signing a record label with Big Loud for the album Shot in the Dark (2024), she’s an artist to watch out for.

4. TikTok has played a role in her virality

After graduating in Belmont in 2019, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, so she didn’t get to do her original plan of performing shows at Broadway in Nashville and Red Door. Instead of moping around, she packed up, went to South Florida, and started posting videos on TikTok. Her first video, “Lay Me Down Challenge,” garnered 2.3 million views, and the rest is history. One user @Jenna even compared her voice to Miley Cyrus, saying: “Okay, but you are so good and give me Miley vibes.” Who knows, she might be the next stardom!

5. Creativity is found in fun nuances

When asked what fuels her creativity, Cooke told StyleBluePrint, “When I hear somebody say something in a different way, even if it’s just in conversation.” During a writer’s retreat for her sophomore album Shot in the Dark, her songwriter friend Jordan Minton talked to her about social media and said, “You know, it’s kind of just a shot in the dark.” That’s when she had the idea to make those last four words her album title. Basically, this was an ode to her journey with music and TikTok — taking a shot at love, life, and career. Thanks to her spontaneity, she found the perfect title for the perfect debut album.

Ashley Cooke’s chapter unfolds into a successful breakthrough in the country scene. Now that you know facts about this up-and-coming artist, listening to her songs will give you a blissful ride you won’t regret.
