Chart-topping country sensation Morgan Wallen made country music history twice in the UK in just one performance.
July 4, Wallen graced British Summer Time (BST), an all-genre festival presented annually by American Express, at Hyde Park, London, as the first-ever country artist headliner. He kicked off the second week of festivities, following a successful weekend by SZA and Kings of Leon. He also had a sold-out show, drawing 50,000 people and marking the largest country concert in the UK.
The singer performed a packed 24-song set, opening with his Hot 100 track “Ain’t That Some” from his third studio album One Thing at a Time. He then went on to treat fans with back-to-back Morgan Wallen hits and favorites, including “Whiskey Glasses,” “Last Night,” and “7 Summers.” He also sang his solo rendition of his hit Post Malone collaboration “I Had Some Help” and rendered an acoustic version of his newest single, “Lies Lies Lies,” which he officially released last July 5. Wallen did two encores before finally signing off with his breakthrough 2018 song from his If I Know Me debut project, “The Way I Talk.”
Among the attendees on the show were celebrity couple Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and retired soccer player Brittany Mahomes. Brittany shared a photo of her and her husband enjoying the concert on Instagram with the caption, “Country concert in London, count me in 😍.”
But it wasn’t just a fun, live music session; it also served to support The Morgan Wallen Foundation, which supports programs for youth in sports and music. Part of the proceeds from the ticket sales (three dollars for every concert ticket Wallen sells) goes to the foundation. His BST appearance, in particular, earmarked $20,000 for the London Youth Choirs, which provides disadvantaged young people access to music as well as singing and performance.
Prior to BST, in December 2023, Morgan Wallen had a sold-out headlining set at London’s O2 Arena. Following this highly successful run, he is set to come back to the country on September 5 at OVO Hydro in Glasgow as part of the European leg of his One Night At A Time 2024 tour with Larry Fleet and Lauren Watkins. Other stops include Sweden, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Ireland.
