Maren Morris’ “The Bones” Is A Look At Love That’s Built To Last

When Maren Morris’ “The Bones” was released digitally as a promotional recording, the Texas-native singer-songwriter admitted that she never thought it would be a single. But as it turns out, fans have taken the song so strongly.

It was later released as the second single from Morris’ sophomore album, “Girl.” And much to Morris’ surprise, the song reached the top spot of Billboard’s charts for Adult Contemporary, Country Airplay, and Hot Country Songs. The song also made her a bona fide crossover star as it peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In addition to that, “The Bones” helped Maren Morris earn a Best Country Song nomination during the 63rd Grammy Awards while winning Song Of The Year on both the Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music Awards. It was also hailed as the Single of The Year in the 2020 Country Music Association Awards.

Indeed, it is one of the biggest among Maren Morris songs to date.

Written by Morris along with Jimmy Robbins and Laura Veltz, “The Bones” is a reflection on solid relationships. It highlights how people in such a partnership can always rely on each other and that no matter what else is going on around it, nothing could ever shake them.

The optimistic relationship song was inspired by the songwriter’s conversation of their rock-solid relationships – Veltz and Robbins with their spouses and Morris during the early days of her engagement to now-husband Ryan Hurd.

It’s “about the bones of a house,” Morris said about the song, to which she added that whatever life throws in the way – be it hurricane, storm, or even wolves – the structure of the house would stand still. “The foundation is still there, so you can rip it down to the studs, and the foundation of this relationship isn’t going anywhere.”
