It’s always a touching moment when people honor and respect the service of our war veterans, and that’s exactly what happened one day in Arizona when a group of bikers surrounded WWII veteran Jennings Shelton Jr. and did a simple yet heartwarming performance of Lee Greenwood’s patriotic song “God Bless the USA.”

Captured by Denelle Confair TV, who soon posted it on her Facebook account, approximately 30-40 bikers are seen gathered in a circle holding hands, with Jennings in the middle. They are noted to be in a wide cul-de-sac, wearing what looked like American Legion Riders vests with American pride patches and their motorcycles behind them.

The highlight of their performance was when they raised their joined hands and clapped to conclude their performance, and Jennings was seen wiping his tears.

It was definitely an emotional moment.

It’s not a mystery why emotions were high–”God Bless the USA”, also known as “Proud to Be an American,” is a patriotic song sung and written by Lee Greenwood, and is considered to be his signature song. It first appeared in Greenwood’s 1984 album “You’ve Got a Good Love Comin’,” where it charted Hot Country Singles chart at #7. The same song was played at the 1984 Republican National Convention, with former President Ronald Reagan and former First Lady Nancy Reagan in attendance. However, what made this song prominent was how it boosted morale during the Gulf War in 1990 and 1991, and the resulting popularity prompted Greenwood to re-record the song for his 1992 album “American Patriot.” The song became popular once again after the September 11 attacks, and during the 2003 invasion of Iraq, where it was re-released as a single, and a newer version of the song was recorded in that same year.
