Barbara Mandrell had an impressive career as a country music singer as she was considered one of the most successful country artists of her time, so it’s no surprise that she was able to release such good, catchy, and quite relatable songs such as “One of a Kind Pair of Fools.”

Released in 1983, “One of a Kind Pair of Fools” was the second single under the album “Spun Gold.” It topped the chart for one week and spent 14 weeks in the top 40, and it was also Barbara Mandrell’s last single that became no. 1 on the country chart.

Analyzing the Song

Barbara Mandrell’s catchy “One of a Kind Pair of Fools” gives us a glimpse of women empowerment, and we’re here for it.

The hit song tells a story of how two women met each other because they discovered that they got cheated on and lied to by the same man, who was in a relationship with them at the same time. You might not find yourself personally relating to their situation, but surely you know someone who does.

In the song, the narrator talks to the other woman about how the man has been treating them and how he must have been proud of himself for managing to be with them both and making a fool out of them. Instead of being mad with the other woman, the narrator had the best response to the situation: “Hey, let’s not fight. We should blame him and make him pay for it”.

The speaker in the song assured the other woman that it would be better for them to talk it out and encouraged her that they should team up just like “best of friends,” confront him, and make him run from them. And honestly, that’s exactly what the man deserves – a good old sweet revenge from the women that he played.
