Have you found your official quarantine chill soundtrack yet? If not, let’s skip all the dramas, sit back, and binge on Darius Rucker‘s ‘Beer and Sunshine.’
As the health crisis situation slowly gets fought over by our medical frontline workers, we, on the other hand, can only contribute by staying in the comfort of our homes and by praying for their safety and success. Rather than groveling in loneliness and paranoia, it won’t hurt to temporarily forget about these things and relax.
Finding a Silver Lining
Inspired to chase out negativity during these times, producer Ross Copperman, Darius Rucker, and songwriters Josh Osborne and J.T. Harding, composed the song during a virtual Zoom meeting. They asked the question, what do we, country folks, get to have in order to leave reality and have a bit of fun? What more than a bottle of that beer while bathing in the sun. Hence, the title ‘Beer and Sunshine.’
In an interview, Rucker shared that even he, was on board with the idea because like the majority, he can also feel the heaviness in the air. The big bummer there was when you have to stay away from your loved ones. He also shared that he hoped ‘Beer and Sunshine’ would act as his contribution to society because as a singer, that’s all he ought to do. He emphasized that we must find the silver lining in today’s situation and enjoy the little moments and simple joys the world offers us together with our family and friends.
Rucker Contributes on Research
As a three-time GRAMMY award winner, Rucker was able to host a fundraising concert ‘Darius & Friends.’ Earlier this month, he was able to raise a whopping amount of $255,000 and counting for St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.
Even before the crisis, Rucker’s been constantly contributing to the facility, making his contributions count way above $2 Million this past decade. However, for those who wanted to re-watch his 11th annual concert, or if you missed the live concert featuring Clint Black and Tracy Lawrence, you can also support the fundraising event by purchasing a virtual stream ticket bound on October 28.
Like Rucker, we may not be experts in the medical field, but as we live in the cutting edge era of technology, there’s plenty of opportunities for us to contribute to our community. It could start with a single purchase of a fundraising ticket while chugging that good-old bottle of beer. So let’s have a toast and keep an ear out to ‘Beer and Sunshine!’
