The seven-time Grammy winner Carrie Underwood performs on NBC’s TODAY popular gospel songs, including the hymn “Just As I Am.” Her angelic voice and the flawless acoustic guitar and piano combination are enough to draw your soul into the stunning performance.

Underwood recently released her first gospel album, My Savior, and celebrated it by performing on the show. She wore a sparkling blue gown that added to the elegant set.

According to Today co-host Hoda Kotb, nobody like Carrie Underwood can pull off a stunning gospel performance. She also sang another old hymn which was “Victory in Jesus,” but gave it a country flair. She continued performing the gospel songs from her album in a virtual live concert, My Savior: Live From The Ryman, last Easter Sunday (April 4).

Underwood on Her Gospel Album

From “Something in the Water” to “Jesus, Take The Wheel,” the country superstar knows how to churn out chart-topping hits. Surprisingly, the gospel album is unlike other Carrie Underwood songs because they sang the originals decades ago, yet she has pulled it off with superb arrangements and vocals. It’s also notable that it’s the first gospel album of the singer.

When she was asked why she created the album, Underwood mentioned that it’s a passion project, just like her Christmas album. Also, it was released at the right time where everyone needs music to uplift their spirits during the world crisis we’re experiencing. It’s more historical as more listeners complimented how modern the arrangement yet stays true to the tradition.

Origins of “Just As I Am”

“Just As I Am” is a famous hymn composed by Charlotte Elliott in 1835. It first appeared in the Christian Remembrancer, where Elliott became the editor a year after. She wrote it to help others find salvation through Christ. It became part of the standard service for many churches around the world, especially in the closing.

You can watch the sparkling performance of Carrie Underwood on the hymn “Just As I Am.” And while you’re at it, don’t forget to close your eyes and feel the Holy Spirit dance with your soul.
