Chris Stapleton’s Tennessee Whiskey is still making the waves today after he released it five years ago. Stapleton is not your ordinary songwriter. This guy with long hair, big beard, and cowboy hat has already penned songs for the upper crust of country, like Tim McGraw, Luke Bryant, and so much more.

Until Tennessee Whiskey by Chris Stapleton came in 2015 and launched the country singer’s career. It is a song cover we never knew we needed in 2015. It traveled to the top of Country Charts, No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs Chart and No. 23 on Billboard Hot 100, despite the few support it got from the radio. And in 2017, the song was nominated for ACM Song of the Year.

Four years after its release, it was already a certified six-time Platinum with 6 million units in combined streams and sales. This very laid back song along with its pretty cool groove definitely made a lot of fans gushing. Chris Stapleton Tennessee Whiskey chords are not too bad too that everyone can learn it pretty quickly.

What Made Him Do It?

It all started when his band had a show in Charlottesville, Virginia. As they were sound checking and waiting around for the mics to get set up, they decided to start playing a bit.

“So I started thinking, ‘Man, what song could I sing over top of this? ‘For whatever reason, I started singing “Tennessee Whiskey,” Stapleton recalled.

“But we decided to do the song that night and every night since. By the time we got into the studio, it was something we all enjoyed playing. It’s a part of the fabric of things that influenced me over the years.”

“Tennessee Whiskey,” which has been recorded by George Jones and David Allan Coe, has always been Chris Stapleton’s.

He Made History With His Live Performances

Chris Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey” live performances have also been making through the headlines. On Valentine’s Day, for instance, Chris Stapleton gave a performance in Nashville that made the crowd erupt in applause and screams.

The country star was in attendance Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Farewell Tour stop at Bridgestone Arena. He was seated in the audience, but at one point during the show, he stood up with a mic in hand, surprising the audience by delivering a brief performance of “Tennessee Whiskey.”

With Chris Stapleton “Tennessee Whiskey” lyrics: “You’re as smooth as Tennessee whiskey/You’re as sweet as strawberry wine/You’re as warm as a glass of brandy And honey, I stay stoned on your love all the time” – it surely set the mood right. It is quite evident how the entire arena is giving a thrilled singalong.

“Madea could not come to the end of the farewell tour and have @chrisstapleton in the audience in Nashville, Tennessee, and not have him sing a verse of Tennessee Whiskey! And he KILLED IT!!” Madea wrote on his Instagram, along with the video of Chris Stapleton’s performance.

But this isn’t the first performance that caught people’s attention. Chris Stapleton “Tennessee Whiskey” with Justin Timberlake at the 2015 CMA Awards totally brought the house down. The epic performance rocketed Stapleton to instant fame.

“Some people might want to burn me at the stake for it, or burn him at the stake for it,” Stapleton told Rolling Stone Country about his team up with Timberlake. “Who knows? But we’re going to have a good time.”

Two years after, Chris Stapleton and Justin Timberlake reunited for another show-stopping performance. The unexpected chemistry of the country singer and pop superstar wowed more than 25,000 guests at Pilgrimage Music and Cultural Festival in Franklin, Tennessee. Timberlake, who headlined the music festival, introduced Stapleton to the delighted festivalgoers as someone who inspired him so much since he met him.

“I think we should make a deal,” Timberlake said, referring to his musical chemistry and friendship with Stapleton. “Every time either one of us plays Tennessee, the other one is there.”

Fast forward to today, we are glad to know that we’re about to witness many, many more performances of Stapleton singing “Tennessee Whiskey” times. His All-American Road Show Tour gets underway, featuring a rotating cast of supporting artists including Jamey Johnson, Marcus King Band, Yola, and Dwight Yoakam.
