We all have witnessed the success Cody Jinks has garnered throughout his lengthy career – and it’s been pretty wild!

The independent country artist may have dropped his debut album as early as 2010, but it took him five years to actually put his name on the map across the nation – building his brand through relentless touring and solid songwriting that showcased his old-school roots. Today, Jinks is one of the most revered and celebrated country artists.

Let’s get to know him more with these fun facts.

1. He’s a native of Fort Worth, Texas.

Born Meredith Cody Jinks on August 18, 1980, the singer began learning to play a few country music riffs on the guitar when he was sixteen, and with the help of his father.

2. He played in a thrash metal band.

Jinks kicked off his music career as the lead singer of a thrash metal band named Unchecked Aggression. They performed across the country from 1998 to 2003, with heavy metal bands Metallica and Pantera as their influences. In 2002, they released an album called The Massacre Begins.

However, the band broke up two years later, and Jinks took a year off from music. And when one door closes, another opens! It was at this time that Jinks then began playing country music, the genre he grew up with.

3. He swears he will remain outside the major-label system.

While he got an enviable contract with Warner Music Nashville, Jinks insists he’d stay out of major-label systems. “Record companies don’t build artists for success,” the singer commented. “Record companies are in business for their own success.

4. He formed his own indie label called Late August Records.

Jinks said this is his way to be able to take young artists he believes in and help those who have the same work ethic that propelled him. “I’m not very good at a lot of things, but I’m pretty good at one thing,” the singer said. “I can find somebody that’s got it, so that’s something that’s really exciting for me.”

5. He is a devoted husband to his wife.

In 2013, Jinks married Rebecca, whom he said is his first biggest fan and supporter. In fact, Rebecca was at the first show Jinks ever played when he was only seventeen. She also became the family’s breadwinner when Jinks was trying to kick start his career. Of course, Rebecca has also been the toughest critic of Cody Jinks songs.

6. He’s a father of two.

Jinks and Rebecca are blessed with a daughter and a son. However, the couple has always been private with their personal lives; in fact, they don’t typically post photos of their kids. Still, in one interview, Jinks revealed that his biggest career single, “Loud and Heavy,” was inspired by his then two-year-old son – giving him “half the writer’s rights on that song.” How amazing is that?

Truly, Cody Jinks has one amazing journey!
