Country songs about daughters are very common in country music, and you might have heard them more than once or twice. As they say, daughters are the apple of the father’s eye and the mother’s as well. And these musical stories really hit hard emotionally, as they retell the joys of childhood to growing up as ladies and falling in love to leaving and becoming women who can achieve everything they want.

1. “Butterfly Kisses” by Bob Carlisle

Penned by Bob Carlisle himself along with bandmate Randy Thomas, this song was dedicated to his daughter Brooke who was about to turn 16 at that time and realizing that she would leave home in a few years. “Butterfly Kisses” perfectly captured the beauty of a father’s relationship with his daughter and the bittersweet feeling of letting go.

2. “Daddy’s Little Girl” by Kippi Brannon

One of the most popular choices for the father-daughter dance, “Daddy’s Little Girl,” written by Stan Webb, Kenya Slaughter Walker, and Angela Kaset, really drove it home with the feelings. The song talked about a girl walking down the aisle, turning into a woman that she would be and no longer ‘daddy’s little girl’ that she once was.

3. “I Loved Her First” by Heartland

This song definitely hits home to all fathers who have poured all their love for their daughters. “I Loved Her First,” penned by Walt Alridge and Elliott Park, was a story of a father giving away his daughter to another man, but he won’t ever stop loving her. He was the first man to hold her and to love her, and she was and will always be his whole world.

4. “In My Daughter’s Eyes” by Martina McBride

“In My Daughter’s Eyes” is a song that can make anyone with a daughter, or a child, cry. The song, which was written by James T. Slater, was a heartfelt song of a mother about her daughter who saved her, strengthened her, and changed her for the better, hoping that she would someday know how much she made her happy. It’s a gentle reminder of how love can heal even the most wounded.

5. “It Won’t Be Like This For Long” by Darius Rucker

This song penned by Rucker along with Ashley Gorley and Chris Dubois, was about his two daughters and how they were both growing up so fast. It was a story of a father recounting the sleepless nights caring for his daughter, laughing at how it will all pass. Then realizing ‘it won’t be like this for long’ and now he is trying to hold on because he knew that he would miss those times when they’re all grown up and gone.

6. “Just Fishin’” by Trace Adkins

A doting father of five daughters, Trace Adkins, sings about a father teaching his girls to fish. And it was more than “just fishin’’ because it was about the life lessons he learned from teaching his daughters how to fish and the time they spent together doing and enjoying it, which were the really important parts. The song was written by Casey Beathard, Monty Criswell, and Ed Hill.

7. “My Little Girl” by Tim McGraw

Another doting father on the list, Tim McGraw, has been blessed with three daughters. He co-wrote “My Little Girl” with Tom Douglas, which was about a father telling his daughter that she will always be his little girl whom he loves so much. And no matter what happens, she can come back to him.

8. “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts

Written by Jeffrey Steele and Steve Robson, this song had always been mistaken as a song for a son, but it was actually a song dedicated to Steele’s daughter, Justine. “My Wish” was a song that captured Steele’s message to his daughter that he would always be behind her no matter what she did in life and that he would always be thinking about her.

9. “There Goes My Life” by Kenny Chesney

“There Goes My Life,” tells the story of a man who was caught in an unplanned situation becoming a father to a daughter, and all he could think was how his life was already ruined. But as the story progresses, this man finds himself as a father whose life revolved around his daughter. The song was written by Wendell Mobley and Neil Thrasher.

10. “You’re Gonna Miss This” by Trace Adkins

To cap off the list is a powerful song written by Ashley Gorley and Lee Thomas Miller. The song was about a girl who wanted to rush everything in life, but thanks to the reminder of her mother, father, and a plumber, she learned to cherish the moments and take things slowly.
