Dolly Parton has always been a symbol of generosity and kindness, and her recent response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene shows her dedication to helping those in need. On October 4, the country music icon made a personal donation of $1 million to support relief efforts for those affected by the hurricane, once again demonstrating her deep care for her community.

With her trademark mix of warmth and humor, Parton stood before a crowd in Newport, Tennessee, and spoke about her connection to the region. True to form, she lightened the mood with a playful twist on her famous song “Jolene,” singing, “Helene, you came in here and broke us all apart.” But beneath the lighthearted moment was a sincere pledge to help rebuild the areas devastated by the storm.

“I’m donating a million dollars today, just from my own bank account,” Parton announced, showing her personal commitment to the recovery efforts. This significant donation is part of a larger $2 million contribution, with an additional $1 million coming from The Dollywood Company. The funds will be directed to the Mountain Ways Foundation, which aids recovery efforts across East Tennessee, Western North Carolina, and the Appalachian region—areas dear to Parton’s heart.

Hurricane Helene has left a path of destruction in its wake. As NBC reported, the Category Four storm has claimed over 220 lives, with many more still unaccounted for. Thousands of households remain without power, and the need for aid is great.

“These are my mountains. These are my valleys. These are my rivers… I just want you to know that I am totally with you ’cause I am part of you. I love you,” Parton shared during her heartfelt speech, reminding everyone of her deep ties to the region she’s always called home.
