“Say it Again” was written by Bob McDill and recorded by the “Gentle Giant of country music” Don Williams. William’s version of the song was released in 1976 as the second single in his album, “Harmony,” and hit number 1 in 1976.

As one of the suave country star’s timeless love songs, “Say it Again” is Don William’s fifth number-one hit on the country music charts.

With his sincerity as a country music star, Williams was an instant favorite in Britain and the US in the 1970s.

Meaning Behind the Song

“Say it Again” tells the compelling story of how one person falls madly in love with another. The lyrics vividly paint a picture of how the persona fell for another in just one magical look, entranced by that first glance. Since he finds this newfound love, he won’t ever let go. Verses detail how he feels complete and wanted in the arms of the apple of his eye – something he has waited to feel his entire life.

The Gentle Giant of country music was always particular with the songs he wrote. He stayed clear of songs he described as “love triangle or boozer songs.” He, instead, wrote and performed songs that celebrate the joy of having a home and hearth, love and marriage, children and old folks. “My songs,” he said,” are about “love and relationships.” Since everyone is made of the “same stuff,” he expressed that there is a universality to what he sings and with what other people feel.
