In 2018, Elvis Presley’s daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, re-recorded her father’s 1967 song from his album How Great Thou Art titled “Where No One Stands Alone.” But instead of doing a cover, she released an emotional duet.
The single was the title track to the legendary singer’s 14-track compilation album, featuring his archival vocal recordings – particularly from his gospel albums How Great Thou Art (1967) and He Touched Me (1972). Before its release, another single, “Saved” was dropped. The album immediately entered Billboard’s Christian album chart at number one and remained at the top for two weeks.
In the duet version, as Rolling Stone described, the father and daughter alternated and harmonized over piano and pedal steel on the ballad. Aside from the nostalgic sound, they also delivered an equally nostalgic video.
In the first verse, a series of images and footage of them together when Lisa Marie was just a child rolled. Fans were treated to clips of the father and daughter playing outside, riding in a car, and visiting Santa Claus! Then, when the chorus hit, an old video of Elvis Presley occupied half of the screen while Lisa Marie stood in the other half in a recording booth.
At the time of the track’s release, the late Lisa Marie shared her thoughts while working on it with ITV’s Lorraine. She said singing it was really emotional because she felt very connected to her father and the song. But it was never pleasant to sing and cry at the same time, so she had to keep her composure.
She then continued, saying she remembered everything about their times together. Whenever she needed help recording, she could “just sort of pull out” the answer from her memory files. “I felt like a hand came down to me. It felt like that a little bit.”
Two years after the release of the song, Lisa Marie suffered the loss of her son, Benjamin Keough. Ben was laid to rest next to his grandfather at Graceland. Then, on January 12, 2023, Lisa Marie passed away due to cardiac arrest at the age of 54.
