In 1998, country singer Faith Hill released “Let Me Let Go” as part of her album Faith. The song would become a worldwide anthem.

Right after its release, the song immediately climbed up the charts, landing at no. 1 on the US Hot Country Songs (Billboard), no. 10 on the US Adult Contemporary (Billboard), and no 33 on the US Billboard Hot 100 – making it one of Faith Hill’s Greatest hits

With her song soaring high up the charts, many people were curious as to what made it such a hit—until they started listening to the song themselves. It seems that aside from Faith Hill’s amazing voice and the song’s catchy tune, the song’s message is something that many people can relate to.

Meaning Behind the Song

Written by Steve Diamond and Dennis Morgan, the song talks about a girl who wants to let go of the memories of the past, especially those she shares with her former lover. Although it may seem like a cliché topic to write a song about, the songwriters believed in it – and it seems like they made the right decision.

According to reports by The Boot, right after Morgan and Diamond finished writing the song, they waited years to make sure they picked the right tune and artists to bring life to their hard work. After multiple demos, they finally got what they wanted, and choosing Faith Hill to sing the song was also the best choice they made.

Aside from giving “Let Me Let Go” a spot on the musical charts, Hill’s powerful delivery of the song also earned her a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female Country Vocal Performance. Her melancholic voice brings life to the message of the song, causing listeners to feel its meaning and genuinely connect with it. Eventually becoming an anthem for broken-hearted people who long to let go of the past.

So, if you are looking for a song that will give you the strength to let go, listen to Faith Hill’s “Let Me Let Go” below.
