In 2005, Trisha Yearwood gave her sweet “yes” to marry boyfriend and fellow country music star, Garth Brooks. And to this day, Brooks considers that day to still be one of the greatest days of his life. Well, who wouldn’t? It’s the Trisha Yearwood. And seventeen years later, they remain to be strong and arguably one of the most powerful couples in country music. They support each other in their individual ventures just like appearances in shows, tours, and concerts.

But did you know that Garth Brooks’ surprise proposal was not simply a bend-on-one-knee-and-pull-out-a-ring kind? He pulled out all the stops to create the most romantic and magical proposal night for Trisha Yearwood that she wouldn’t be able to forget in a hundred lifetimes.

Let’s take a quick look at the scenes that helped create that.

The plan was scheduled for May 25th of 2005, when he and Yearwood were to be part of the unveiling of ten bronze statues of country music artists at Buck Owens’ Crystal Palace in Bakersfield, California. Brooks was one of the artists who had a statue that was designed in his likeness, and so he made a special request to sculptor Bill Rains to include a wedding ring on the left hand.

And in front of 7,000 people during the ceremony, Brooks led his beloved girlfriend to the statue. Once, Yearwood saw the ring and realized what was happening, Brooks then whipped off his hat and got down on one knee. He asked Yearwood if she would marry him, and we all know what she said. According to the talent coordinator for the Palace, Jerry Hufford, Yearwood’s knees were like Jell-O at the time, and she was definitely and totally stunned.

No one really knew it was coming, even though Brooks hinted at the ‘big event’ during a press conference at the ACM a week before it happened.

And as years passed by, the couple never lost their spark. In fact, when Brooks appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres show in 2013 he said, “I’ve got to tell you, I never knew it could be like this. I never knew that every day you could wake up and feel like this.
