Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell are among the most iconic and long-lasting couples in Hollywood. Though the famous on-screen duo has decided never to marry, they are committed to raising their blended family full of love. They have been inseparable for more than thirty years — and are still going strong.

Let’s take a look at the celebrity romance that never ceases to steal our hearts.

Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell First Met on A Disney Movie Set

It was in 1966 when Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell first met each other as young actors filming at the set of the live-action musical film The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band from Walt Disney Productions. However, their romantic relationship did not immediately begin.

At the time, Hawn was only starting off her career with the theatrical feature as her first movie. Meanwhile, Russell was known as a much-admired child star who was acknowledged for being the top talent at the studio with a ten-year Disney contract – with that, he left a lasting impression on Hawn.

Hawn said she was 21 when she met the 16-year-old Russell, who she thought was adorable.

The Cheesy Pick-Up Line That Started It All

It took nearly two decades later for Hawn and Russell to be reunited – working together again in the 1984 romantic drama war film, Swing Shift. Still, Hawn remembered how she liked Russell very much when she first met him.

But a night of drinking for Russell before reading lines with Hawn at an audition the following day led to a terrible pick-up line that would somehow begin years of relationship.

Despite being severely hungover at that time, Russel remembered the moment clearly. The actor said he did not know Hawn at all other than working with her those many years before, yet he found himself wooing the actress with a cheesy pick-up line: “Man, you’ve got a great figure.”

Things could have gone wrong, luckily Hawn responded with, “Why, thank you.”

Their First Date That Almost Gone Wrong

While Hawn and Russell were still filming Swing Shift, the two went out one evening after filming – saying they would practice their dance scenes together. So, they headed to The Playboy Club, where they enjoyed each other’s company and talked for hours until they decided to keep the fun going at Hawn’s house, which the actress had newly purchased at that time to renovate.

However, Hawn did not have the key yet, so they found themselves breaking into the place to get in.

“We eventually found our way upstairs, looking around at imaginary furniture, and we were in the imaginary bedroom, now, and we are realistically having sex,” Russell recollected the moment, “when the police walked in because we had to break into the place to get in.”

Don’t worry, the police did not spoil the evening, but the couple had to go to a hotel to continue their romantic date. They were inseparable ever since.

Building A Family Together

Hawn and Russell would go on to take things to another level by combining their families.

Before dating Hawn, Russel had a son – Boston Russell – with his then-wife Susan Hubley, whom the actor married for four years. The two called it quits in 1983. Hawn, on the other hand, also had two children – Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson – from her six-year marriage with her second husband, Bill Hudson. Hawn and Hudson were married from 1976 to 1982.

Completing their blended family was Hawn and Russell’s baby boy Wyatt Russell – who they welcomed into the world in 1986.

Kate, Oliver, and Wyatt have followed the famous footsteps of their parents and are all accomplished actors.

They Opened Up On Why They Never Married

The Hollywood stars shared the simple reason they decided never to marry and why they plan to keep it that way. And that’s simply because the marriage did not work for either of them in the past.

While their previous marriages led to adored children, tying the knot turned into a letdown for both. Though the couple is not saying that it would not work again, they just don’t think it’s really necessary for them to get married – and that basically works for the couple.

They Continued Working Together

Throughout their over three decades relationship, the couple has starred in films together five times, with Netflix’s The Christmas Chronicles 2 in 2020 being the latest one.

In 2017, the talented actors received their stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame together, further bonding their linked careers and life. The two even shared a kiss during the ceremony. All through their romance, Hawn and Russell supported each other’s careers and continually inspired fans by example.

They Shared The Key To Their Long-Lasting Relationship

According to Hawn, knowing “when to depend on somebody and when not to” as well as “holding up your side of the house” have been the key to their happy relationship. After all, one person can never take on the whole burden alone.

Well, it seems you just can never keep these two apart! Today, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell are a continually growing family. Besides their four kids, the couple is now doting grandparents to seven little ones. Their blended family is incredibly close and they have been spending a lot of time together.
