“I Need More of You” is just another one of those songs on the Bellamy Brothers’ long list of definitive hits. With David Bellamy’s songwriting and Homer’s harmonies, the record was released in January 1985 as the tenth track to the Brothers’ ninth studio album, Restless. Their distinguished tone from each other made it a notable track amongst fans.

Greedy as it may sound, the duo can’t help but keep topping the US Billboard Hot Country Songs charts during their prime. This was their eighth No. 1, along with “If I Said You Have A Beautiful Body Would You Hold It Against Me” and “Too Much Is Not Enough.” It also went No. 4 on the Canadian RPM Country Tracks.

The Bellamy Brothers are known for their layered production of pop and country elements that catered their songs to a wide range of music lovers. In “I Need More of You,” they commendably combined the two genres without overplaying the use of one instrument to layer another.

Meaning of the Song

When you need a break from angsty songs and trap beats, The Bellamy Brothers’ “I Need More of You” is a fiery love song dedicated to the lovey-doveys. “Hearts burning like they were on fire; flames changing our love to desire” clearly indicates the passionate love the singer intends to express. Anything less than his lover is not enough for a hearty yearner.

The lovers in the song have not been together for long, so the singer asks for more of the partner’s presence to change his rain into the sun and put his blues on the run. But, their distance is not a hindrance to their ardent devotion to each other, for it keeps them tightly bonded that their burning love remains strong.

What makes “I Need More of You” special is the catchy, honk strumming of an electric guitar in the intro, which plays in the background throughout the song. The simple yet profound lyrics are accompanied by a soft, thumping bass guitar and a distinct piano sound on the second verse. It’s laid-back country-tinged pop, perfect for a good mood.

Sing along to the lyrics of The Bellamy Brothers’ “I Need More of You” to your lover and never miss a beat.
