“First time nominated, first award, and it couldn’t have happened for a more meaningful song,” Jelly Roll said about his Music Event of the Year win at the 2024 ACM Awards for his track “Save Me” with his fellow singer Lainey Wilson.
But it took him some time to really wrap his head around it and gather his thoughts.
In an emotional Facebook post more than a week after receiving his first ACM, the singer expressed his gratitude to his peers for nominating him and voting for his song to win and how life-changing this song was to him.
“Honestly, I couldn’t quit thinking about how much this song has changed my life and so many others. I get thousands of messages a week talking about how much this song helped people or how it was played at a loved one’s funeral.” Jelly Roll penned this song with a guy he had known since high school. He said that back then, they were just a couple of misunderstood kids who grew up never thinking they’d amount to anything. And this song came from the depths of his soul, and he promised to continue writing songs like this.
Last but not least, he thanked Lainey Wilson, whom he described as his “angel on earth” and the perfect partner for this song. He told her how inspired he was by her hard work and how she anchors herself in her family. He also added that he’d go to war beside her if it ever came down for it because she always showed up for him every time he asked – no matter how big or small. “Send my love to Duck and your mom and dad. This song would not be what it is without you!”
